Some families become more than clients over time. They slowly weave themselves into your story, just as you become part of theirs. That is exactly how I feel about this sweet family. Our journey together began years ago, and every session since has reminded me why I love this work so deeply. It started with creating heirloom portraits of big sister Winnie. Since then, I have documented Lottie’s birth, which was not only a milestone for their family but also my very first birth session. I’ve also photographed many of her milestone moments, including her 3, 6, and 9‑month portraits. Together, we’ve built a visual legacy that feels incredibly meaningful.
This most recent studio heirloom session felt especially full‑circle. Heirloom portraits hold a unique kind of importance, and each time I photograph them, I’m reminded why they matter so much. These sessions are simple and classic. They focus entirely on the child, without distractions or trends pulling attention away. Instead, the emphasis stays on expression, personality, and the tiny details that change far too quickly. These portraits are meant to last. They become the images framed on walls, tucked into albums, and passed down through generations.
I love heirloom sessions because they naturally slow everything down. They create room for stillness and connection. They give us space to notice the little things that make each child who they are. The curl of a smile. The softness in their eyes. The way siblings look at each other with a bond only they understand. Photographing Winnie and Lottie together in this setting felt like capturing a piece of their story that their family will treasure for years to come.
This family has welcomed me into so many meaningful moments, and it is always a joy to photograph them! Sessions like this remind me why I do what I do. They allow me to preserve the beauty of childhood, the sweetness of siblinghood, and the legacy of a family growing together.
