Nine months is one of my favorite milestones to photograph during a baby’s first year. It’s the stage where personalities start to shine, little expressions appear out of nowhere, and babies are often sitting confidently, crawling, and exploring the world around them.
This recent milestone session took place in a light-filled studio in Franklin, Tennessee — the kind of space that feels calm, simple, and welcoming. With soft off-white walls, dark wood floors, and beautiful natural light pouring in, the studio provided the perfect blank canvas to keep the focus where it belongs: on the connection and expressions within the family.
This session celebrated sweet Arwen at nine months old. One of the highlights of this age is how curious babies become, and Arwen was full of personality. She had recently started crawling and loved reaching out to explore everything around her — grabbing hands, hair, and faces with the sweetest curiosity. Her bright smiles and playful expressions made every moment fun to capture.
Of course, her big sister Aeris made the session even more special. At two and a half years old, she brought so much joy and energy to the studio. Watching the two of them interact — little touches, giggles, and sisterly curiosity — created some of the most meaningful images of the day.
One of the things that makes sessions like this especially meaningful for me is the long-term relationships that grow with families. I first photographed this family when mom was pregnant with Aeris, and this session marks our sixth time working together. Being invited back year after year to document these milestones is truly one of the greatest honors of my work.
This session is part of Arwen’s Baby’s First Year plan, which means we still have one more milestone to celebrate soon — her first birthday.
Just like they did with Aeris, the family plans to preserve Arwen’s first year in a custom album — a modern-day baby book filled with the moments that pass by far too quickly. It’s one of my favorite ways families can relive these early years, turning fleeting milestones into something tangible that can be held, shared, and passed down.
These are the moments that become part of a family’s story — and I’m so grateful to help preserve them.
