How did you become a hair stylist/makeup artist? How long have you been in business?

I have been freelancing for about 10 years now. I did hair and makeup for friends in high school, but it wasn’t until after college that I decided to really focus on turning my craft into a business. I have a degree in Business Art and can’t think of a better way to make use of it! I never imagined it would turn into such an amazing career, and am truly grateful for my amazing clients, and all the support of friends, family and friendors in the industry!

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone who’s in need of a makeup artist/hair stylist?

Find someone who you feel comfortable with and want to hang out with on your wedding day. There are so many talented makeup artists and hair stylists around the Chicago area that can create any look. But you should find someone you mesh well with so you can feel at ease the morning of your wedding.

What’s your favorite place in Chicago to hang out, have a drink, etc?

As much as I love the city, I live out in the suburbs and love hanging out on my deck. If I were to pick a place in Chicago, I’d have to say any rooftop. There is nothing better than sitting outside having a drink or a cup of coffee

Do you have a favorite wedding month or season?

Personally, I love summer weddings because of the bright colors and sunshine! However, I have seen many many fall and winter weddings that were just as breath taking!

What’s your favorite makeup/hair trend?

I love a classic simple hair and makeup look. Clean natural colors and soft textured hair. I love glowy skin and a little pop of color on the lip. I love working with each bride and their features to create a perfect, not over done, look. Everyone has a limit with how much makeup their face can handle, and everyone’s hair is different, so I find everyone looks their best when you work with their hair type and features and not against them.

What separates you from the other Hair/MUAs in Chicago?

I’d like to think that my personality separates myself. I truly love getting to know my brides and making sure they feel beyond perfect on their big day. I love working with them to create the look of their dreams. Whether it be over the top dramatic or the perfect barely-there look. By the end of the wedding day, I feel like I am best friend with the bride and her family and feel sad that its all over!

Do you have a team or people that help you on occasion? Tell us about them!

YES! I have several girls in the industry that I have met along the way and I just adore them. Being a freelancer with out any co-workers, it can sometime be challenging to brainstorm business ideas, find new products and continue to advance. These ladies are the backbone to my business and I can rely on them to help with larger weddings, use as referrals and or bounce ideas off.

Describe your ideal client.

My ideal client would be someone who is up for trying something slightly out of their comfort zone but isn’t afraid to speak up when they don’t like the direction we might be going in. I think its easiest to find the perfect look for someone when they aren’t afraid to openly communicate their opinion. Team work is where it’s at!
