Elizabeth Nord Photography » Everyone has a story. Let me tell yours.

I am so excited to share with you all Lydia and Brent’s beautiful wedding day at the Eaglewood Resort and Spa in Itasca, IL! The one thing that I kept hearing them say about their wedding was that they were so excited to have a big party with all of their family and friends! They could not wait to have all of their loves ones under one roof to celebrate their marriage! As everyone probably knows by now, I’m obsessed with the little details that make up a wedding day, and one thing I couldn’t stop thinking about was her Badgley Misha shoes! SO stunning! I also loved her dress and how the lace sleeves sat perfectly off the side of her shoulders. Lydia made one stunning bride and Brent looked so dapper in his tuxedo! The ceremony picked up with some big wind gusts here and there, but I thought it was so adorable how they just smiled real big and laughed through it all. Their first kiss photo may be one of my favorites ever because it’s so sweet and romantic with the wind blowing! It was obvious how excited they were to be married and you can’t help but smile when you look at it!

Lydia and Brent, I’m so excited for the two of you to be married and I cant wait to see where your lives take you! Big hugs to you both and congratulations!!

Molly and Grant chose to host their rehearsal dinner at GT Fish & Oyster, a popular Chicago restaurant in the heart of River North. The restaurant has an intimate private dining space on the lower level called The Whale Room that is perfect for a small event, meeting, or gathering. I love all the details that Molly and Grant put into making their rehearsal dinner special and one they’ll never forget. Molly’s brother narrated/translated as Molly and Grant performed Chinese traditions such as the Chinese tea ceremony, the groom’s mother giving jewelry to the bride, bowing to one another symbolizing their marriage, and more!

I knew I loved these two from the first time I met them, but their Chicago engagement session truly confirmed that they are one amazing couple! It was raining pretty hard that entire morning and afternoon, so like I do with all of my clients, I gave them 2 options: cancel or wing it! And by wing it, I mean, take cover and wait for rain to stop in between photos, maybe grab a cocktail or coffee along the way, or maybe even dance in the rain a little 🙂 While neither are a bad choice what so ever, they chose to wing it and let me get creative even if it started pouring on them! I just loved their sweet, fun personalities and their complete trust in me.  Soon after we began their session, the rain subsided and we were gifted with a beautiful, cloudy, summer evening.  We could not have asked for a better time together! I loved spending that afternoon with Kevin and Laura and truly cannot wait for their wedding in May!

P.S. How freaking cute are they!?!? I can’t stand it.

Happy Monday, friends!! This past week I took some time off to spend time with my mom and dad who were visiting us from Tennessee! We did so many fun things throughout the city including the Architectural boat tour, visiting the Shedd Aquarium, taking a water taxi to Navy Pier, having cocktails at the Signature Room (96 floors above Chicago!! SO cool!), as well as driving to Starved Rock to go hiking! I decided to bring along “the big camera” to take some photos along the hike and I’m so glad I did! Starved Rock is absolutely stunning and we had a blast! Below are some of my favorites from our 3 hour hike throughout the area! I highly suggest taking a day trip out there- you won’t regret it!

Katie and Mike’s wedding day began at their parents’ homes in Arlington Heights and Lake Forest, IL. I just loved everything about Katie’s parent’s home. We were surrounded by windows in the getting ready room which provided so much natural light – I was in heaven! Her details were the perfect mixture of glamorous and elegant. The lacing and beading on the back of Katie’s dress was absolutely stunning and I love the image below of her mom helping her with the buttons! Does Katie not remind you of Audrey Hepburn? She just radiates beauty and grace!

They were married at the St Edna Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. From there, we took portraits at a nearby park and then went to the reception location for more! The bridal party rocked out to their favorite songs on the drive over to The Royal Melbourne Country Club (thanks to Windy City Limo!).

The Royal Melbourne is absolutely gorgeous! One of the best things about getting married at a golf course is getting to ride in the golf carts! This is the best way to get around the property and not waste any time! 🙂 We found some beautiful spots for portraits and had enough time for them before needing to turn back because of the rain! The reception space was filled with red rose bouquets, rose petals, and accents of gold complete with a classic white tablecloth. Their cake smelt absolutely amazing and was possibly one of the best cakes I’ve had at a wedding. SO yum!! Enjoy viewing this beautiful wedding day!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Tung!

Emily and Chris’s wedding day was full of greek traditions and elegant details! They had their beautiful wedding day ceremony at the St Paul of the Cross church in Park Ridge and their reception at the ever-so-stunning Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel. Emily began her day by getting ready at her parents home in Park Ridge which featured the most beautiful room filled with tons of natural light. Her details were equistite! Among my favorites were her blue Badgley Mischka heels (some of my favorite wedding shoes ever!), the classic white and blue stationary, and the traditional greek eye that the bridesmaids wore on the neck of their dresses. I learned about the tradition/symbolism behind the Greek eye while visiting Greece several years ago so it was cool to see it incorporated into their wedding details! You can read more about this tradition here! Emily also had all of her bridesmaids sign the bottom of her shoe before leaving for the ceremony. This was another Greek tradition- a new one I hadn’t heard before! Apparently, you’re supposed to check the bottom of the shoe at the end of the night and whoever’s name has rubbed off the most is supposed to be married next. The bridesmaids bouquets included beautiful white roses and peonies, while Emily’s included a pop of blue flowers. Chris got ready at the Renaissance Chicago O’Hare in Rosemont with his family and friends. I loved his navy and white striped cufflinks, navy suit, and crazy colored “fun socks”!

One thing that I love about Ali and Troy is their love for the little things; the smallest of details that are incredibly sentimental, symbolic, or handmade. Ali presented me with the most beautiful details to photograph including her grandmothers pearls. She also handed me a green macaron ring box where she had made the floral padding insert for their rings to sit in. Ali is not only a passionate and hardworking teacher, but she’s also a talented artist. She gifted me a drawing of purple hydrangeas and I have it hanging in my office. I love it!! You can see more of her work here! I could have spent an hour photographing just her details- that’s how much I loved them. Ali and Troy were surrounded by their closest family and friends while they were getting ready that day. I love the robes that the girls wore. Does anyone recognize one of the bridesmaids?! 🙂 It’s Nicole from Storybook Weddings! Hey girl, hey!

Since it began to rain heavily as soon as it was time for their first look, we decided to stay inside the hotel. It was a beautifully lit backdrop that really couldn’t have been more perfect. Their first look was incredibly sweet and emotional- I definitely teared up as I watched them see one another for the first time that day. As soon as the rain subsided, we made our way outside and to the mansion for portraits. I love all that the Jacob Henry Mansion has to offer for photos! So many gorgeous things!

For the reception, I love that they incorporated Troy’s career and love for planes. The plane theme was seen on the name cards (handmade paper airplanes, guys!! SO cute!), the decor on the tables, as well as on their save the dates that they sent out beforehand.

I absolutely loved being a part of Ali and Troy’s wedding day in Joliet and know that they are going to have such a fun time being married to one another! They are some of the sweetest people I know and I could just hug them a million times over. To the new Mr. and Mrs. Schlote, I hope you guys had an amazing honeymoon in Charleston and Savannah! Congratulations!!!

It’s Tuesdays Together time again!!  This month’s meet up was co-hosted by my sweet friend Ozzie Meza with Gromeza Floral Design Studio at his amazing home in Wrigleyville. All of these creative entrepreneurs gathered in the spirit of community over competition to talk about all things social media. There was a great group this month with 21 in attendance! You are going to be blown away by all of Ozzie’s amazing floral decor and the incredible deck they just built! Oh and don’t forget the “What would Beyonce do” sign. LOVE.

Are you a creative entrepreneur? Live in the city of Chicago and want to get connected with other like minded friends? We’d love to have you join us at our next meet up!

What a wonderful group you have been able to bring together Elizabeth Nord. What a fun night!

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Stacey and Scott ever since we first moved to Chicago. They just so happen to live in my condo building and are a part of the building’s social committee, which is how we first met one another. Scott and Stacey have been together for a long time, so when I heard the news that they were engaged, I was over the moon for them! Stacey glowed with excitement as she showed off her engagement ring and told me the news. A few weeks later, they asked to me be their wedding photographer and I was absolutely honored! What’s more fun than getting to photograph your friends and to know more than half the bridal party already!? I knew this wedding was going to be amazing!

Their ceremony and reception were held at The American Club Resort in Kohler, Wisconsin. It is an absolutely stunning resort filled with beautiful scenery at every turn, a luxurious spa, yummy restaurants, and of course, relaxing rooms. It was so much fun to not only be the photographer, but to be able to be a wedding guest with my husband once my coverage ended. I had an amazing time traveling for their wedding in Kohler and hope to have the opportunity to photograph more weddings here. Such a cool place!

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Johnson!

Her shoes are so perfect!!

Oh, where to even start with these two… I just love love love Theresa and Alex. As soon as I entered Theresa’s parents home in Naperville, her family welcomed me in like their one of their own. Her details were absolute perfection (photographer HEAVEN!) and her first look with her dad was something you can’t help but get teary eyed about!  Being huge lovers of biking and triathlon’s, they decided to have a heritage bicycle theme on their wedding day. From their wedding invitations to the socks they wore to the reception decor, bicycles were a common item seen throughout the day! It was such a beautiful day that they truly made their own! Their personality was shown through every detail. They were married at the St Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville and the reception was held at Abbey Farms in Aurora.

Even though it was possibly one of the hottest days of the summer so far, they were such troopers in the heat!! I could not have asked for a better couple that weekend. Hugs to you guys and I hope you had an AMAZING time in Hawaii!! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Brouwer 🙂

My newest love has been photographing branding sessions for other business owners! Along with this (especially when you’re not a photographer), you’ll need content to post on social media. That’s where styled stock photography comes into play! When you do a branding session or even just a styled stock photography session with me, you will receive images like this. I LOVE using pieces from your office that speak to your brand, things that tie in your personality and things that you enjoy doing.

The following styled stock images would work for almost ANY entrepreneur! I did these particular images for my friend at Storybook Events. We worked together to create some amazing images that she can use all year ’round as well as some more seasonal images. They speak to her brand, her ideal client, and showcases her personality as well!

I first met Susan and Stephen at their friends wedding (see Christian and Johanna’s blog post here!!) last August where they were attending as guests.  Soon after Christian and Johanna’s wedding, they contacted me to photograph their own wedding day! Their wedding was held at the amazingly gorgeous Holy Hill Basilica that is in Wisconsin. I had never heard of this basilica but upon googling it for the first time, I was floored. Apparently, it has about 300,000 visitors each year!! WOW! It reminded me of something like you’d see in France (did anyone else think of Mont Saint Michel??) I could NOT wait until their wedding day…Bring on the pretty churches and amazing couples!!

As I walked into the sanctuary, my mouth flew open with amazement. Everything was so ornately beautiful, the ladies were gleaming with excitement, and the men were as hilarious as ever. Susan looked absolutely stunning as she came down the aisle to meet with her soon to be husband, Steven. After the ceremony ended, we drove to a remote location off the side of the road for some portraits. It could not have been a more perfect location with the basilica in the background. We were even visited by a herd of deer for a few moments!

Their reception was held at the Marriott in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where their dog came to get his picture made with his newly wedded parents 😉 I LOOOOVE when my couples bring their dogs on their wedding day. It just makes me so happy to get to love on pups as well as photograph my couples on one of the best days of their lives! This wedding was truly spectacular and I know you guys are going to love it just as much as I do!

Congratulations Stephen and Susan!! XOXO

Looks like a wonderful evening!

This past weekend, my sister and her husband came to visit me in Chicago for the fourth of July.  We had always talked about doing a part 2 to their engagement session (You can see their engagement session from 2014 HERE!), but since my move to Chicago, timing just didn’t work out for a second session.  Now that they were coming up to visit, and the fact that it was their first time to Chicago, I found it fitting to steal them away for an hour or two for an almost-one-year wedding anniversary session!  I was thrilled that they were just as excited as I was for this time together!  We made our way to the front of the Chicago Board of Trade building on Lasalle Street, one of the coolest streets in Chicago… In my opinion, anyway! There are very few streets that end with a building, so you can see why Lasalle Street is one of my favorites! Also the gold doors next to it?…I die.

Hi friends! I hope you all had an amazing fourth of July weekend with family and friends! My sister and her husband came up from Tennessee to join us for the weekend and we had so much fun! From Saturday to Monday morning, we walked nearly 15 miles exploring Chicago. We started the “tour of Chicago” at one of my favorite coffee spots, 3 Greens Market in River North and then walked over to the Kinzie Street Bridge. I love that view!

On Monday, I had the privilege of photographing these two newlyweds for a special project of mine. I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on!! The day started out being 90+ degrees and we were all a little worried we’d be disgusting by the time it was over, but we decided to brave it anyway! It turned out to be a warm (but not hot) night with the most incredible light beaming through the clouds and one of the prettiest sunsets I’ve seen in a long time. All I’m going to say is Pantone colors. EEK! You are going to be blown away by these two and their natural ability to just be in their own element. They acted as though I weren’t there (which I LOVE) and made every pose their own. It personalized their session and made everything that much more fun! Lex and Rodney, I had an incredible night photographing you guys, getting to know more about your relationship, and your love. I hope we get to have more fun nights like this in the future and with more sushi dates too 😉 P.S. Lex is a super talented photographer!! Check out her work here 🙂

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful Waldorf Astoria wedding as a second for my friend Amanda Miller Photography. We always have so much fun photographing weddings together and this one was no exception! The Waldorf is absolutely stunning and it set the perfect scene for Nick and Anna’s wedding day. They are both British and met one another in the US. I cannot resist a British accent, so they truly won me over as soon as I met them that morning.  Their sweetheart pup Rupert made a special appearance during the ceremony and wore a dapper top hat as he was walked down the aisle to deliver the rings. You will have to see what I’m talking about! eek! SO CUTE.

Congratulations Anna and Nick! It was wonderful meeting you and to be a part of your special day!

Guys, you’re just going to fall in love with these two!! Theresa and Alex met me downtown in the River North/West Loop area to begin their engagement session on the Kinzie Street Bridge. This bridge features one of my favorite views of the city, so I was thrilled to begin there! Their love connection was instantly seen as I began to pose them and they were such naturals! We made our way through the West Loop stopping in random spots that I had found and the sunlight followed! It could not have been a prettier day. It made the most gorgeous back lit images!

Theresa and Alex first met on a blind date during the time that she began student teaching. They’ve been dating every since and really enjoying biking with one another. They do triathlons often and will have a vintage bicycle theme for their wedding day! I cannot wait to see all the decor for their wedding at Abbey Farms in July! It’s going to be so fun and unique!

Hi friends! I hope everyone had an amazing weekend! On the blog today are two of the sweetest people EVER: Ali and Troy. They crossed paths after their best friends started dating (and eventually marrying!) one another. Best friends marrying best friends!! How special is that?! Ali and Troy have been together for over 5 years now, bought an adorable home in Cary, IL, and have a pitbull pup named Lindy and a giant bunny named Leroux “aka Big Bun.”  After speaking with Troy and Ali about ideas for their session, we decided to incorporate their home and their animals into the first part of the day in what I like to call a front porch session!

The second portion was held at the Galt Airport where Troy works! He is a pilot and they both have a huge love for planes so this was perfect for them! After taking some photos in the hangar, we ventured onto the runway and to a nearby field that provided the most beautiful sunset lighting.

I had so much fun with you guys and cannot wait for your wedding day! It’ll be here soon!! 🙂

It’s hard to figure out exactly where to begin to talk about this amazing wedding day! Everything was absolutely stunning from the floors to the ceiling. Their floral decor on the top of the arbor (and oh my goodness, don’t miss the flower wall at the reception!!) was so gorgeous. From the draping to the chandeliers and the candles, I was seriously swooning as I walked into their ceremony space. Yanni Design Studio truly outdid themselves here!! SO pretty! Their reception was equally as gorgeous with the purple uplighting, exquisite table decor, the floral wall behind the couple.

Shveta and Gotam are both sweethearts that knew pretty instantly that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. After getting to know them throughout this wedding planning process and photographing multiple of their events, I can truly say that they’re both incredibly smart and talented individuals who complement each other so well! I’m so happy to have met them and to have had the opportunity to photograph one of the most special days of their lives. Congratulations Shveta and Gotam!!

So beautiful. I love all the vibrant colors.

Hi friends!

I can’t wait until you meet my new sister in law, Lauren. It kind of hit me today that she’s the only one I’m ever going to have and I truly could not have picked a better one myself! My little brother, Lance, got married to this beauty this past Saturday on the dock in my parents backyard! It was such a beautiful, warm, and sunny afternoon… simply perfect in every way. The ceremony was incredibly sweet and the reception was so much fun! Anytime there’s music and a dance floor, I can guarantee you that my family will be out there! I can also guarantee that you will leave with your cheeks hurting from smiling and laughing so hard.  Some of my favorite parts about their wedding day was the fact that they included their dog Buck into the ceremony, her mother handmade her veil (GORGEOUS, right!?), and Lauren and Lance surprised everyone at the reception with a mashup first dance!  It was SO them.

A few weeks ago, I presented the idea of doing a Tennessee backyard bridal session to Lauren and she was so excited! With everything in place, we decided to do the session at my grandmother’s home. The sun was definitely coming out to play that day and we used it to our advantage. I love the mix of super sunny and bright photos with the contrasted dramatic look as well. Her personality totally shined in these and I know that we’ll always remember this time together!

Love you, sister!

To my love,

I cannot believe it’s already been 7 years of married life with you and 11 years since the first time I saw you walk across my high school cafeteria. I loved you then and even though I didn’t think it could be possible, I love you even more today. You’ve taught me so many things over the past 11 years and have truly made me a better person in every way possible.

I can never thank you enough for continually uplifting and encouraging me, for being my biggest supporter in life and in my business, and for being my husband. Just thinking of you makes me smile and giddy. Thank you for choosing me to be your lifelong partner, wife, and (God willing) future mother of your children. I love you SO much!

Love, your Liz

Marcie and Eugene first crossed paths after their best friends introduced them to one another at a wedding. How cute is that?! Emily and Chris were brave enough to agree to a sunrise session with me this past Saturday and it was so much fun! This was actually my first ever sunrise session, mostly because I’m just not a morning person, but I have to say that for these two…I’d wake up early any day! They absolutely rocked every “pose” and were so much fun to be with!  One huge perk of a sunrise session is that there is no one around, so we had all of Lincoln Park Zoo to ourselves!

They initially met while working in the same office in the summer of 2010.  They reconnected with one another after Chris graduated law school and have been together ever since. These two are incredibly smart, witty, and have huge hearts for one another. It is so evident in the way they look each other and the way Chris holds her tight. Chris and Emily made my heart melt throughout this entire session!

We ventured to several different locations (Lincoln Park Zoo, Millennium Park, Chicago theater sign) since they were all really close together and it couldn’t have worked out better!
