The First Year Collective Membership

There’s something so comforting about walking into a home where you already know the people inside. That’s exactly what made Baby Jackson’s in‑home newborn session feel so special. I’ve photographed this family before, and since the Smith family is part of my First Year Collective Membership, we have a whole year worth of milestones to capture together.

From the moment I arrived, the love for Jackson was clear. Mom and Dad moved around him with such tenderness. Big sister stayed close, eager to help and be part of every moment. Their connection filled the room. It showed in the way they held him, the way they looked at him, and the way they settled into life as a family of four. These natural, easy moments are what make in‑home sessions so meaningful.

We spent time in Jackson’s nursery, and it added so much heart to the session. The soft colors, tiny clothes, and quiet stillness created the sweetest backdrop. Photographing a baby in the room made just for them always feels special. It’s where so many firsts will happen, and capturing these early days there gives the images a sense of home you can’t recreate anywhere else.

What made this session even more meaningful was knowing it was only the beginning. As part of the First Year Collective, the Smiths will have Jackson’s biggest milestones documented — from his early expressions to sitting, crawling, and eventually celebrating his first birthday. Each session builds on the last and creates a connected story of his first year.

The Smiths have already become such a special family to me. Photographing them is a joy, and being invited into their home for this session felt like the start of something truly beautiful.
